Bhangarh Fort is situated at the border of Sariska Reserve in Alwar District of Rajasthan, India.
This fort was built in the 18th century when the town was established by Bhagawant Das as the home of his 2nd son Madho Singh.
Madho Singh was also one of Akbar's Generals. He was succeed by his son Chatr Singh.
The fort and it structures are well preserved. What we present here is a story conveyed by a guide at Bhangarh.
Chatr Singh's daughter Ratnavati, was considered to be a jewel of Rajasthan. She was liked by all as much as there was a widespread dislike for Chatr Singh's son Ajab Singh.
Ratnavati would receive many proposals as the stories of her beauty and temperament were already known to all.
A tantrik priest who supposedly was an expert with black magic, once saw Rani Ratnavati's maid buying a perfume for her from the village.
Tantrik knew that his chances of having any relation with Ratnavati were non-existent so, he tried to cast a spell on her through the perfume.
However, Ratnavati came to know about this and threw the bottle of perfume away.
This bottle is said to have either hit a boulder or turned into a boulder. And, it fell on the tantrik leading to his death.
But before his death, the tantrik cursed Ratnavati her family and the entire village.
As a result, in the next year a battle was fought between Bhangarh and Ajabgarh which led to the death of Ratnavati and most of the army.
The curse ensured that no one in the village or the fort could be reborn. The fort is thus forever inhabited by ghosts.
Officially it is completely forbidden to venture or stay inside the Bhangarh Fort during the night. There are various signs put up to warn people about this.
