The Flash (2023) Review

[imdb]tt0439572[/imdb]

Barry Allen/The Flash (Ezra Miller) approaches Bruce Wayne/Batman (Ben Affleck), his mentor, to ask for his opinion on whether going back in time to prevent his mother’s death is actually the correct thing to do. The latter pushes back and cautions Barry about the potentially harmful effects of his “wildly irresponsible” proposal.

Barry manages to do so despite being overcome by emotions, opening the multiverse for not only his story but also the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which began in 2013 with Man of Steel and showed a lot of potential. In contrast to other times when the universe feels like a justification for adding additional superhero crossovers and cameos, this narrative device is authentic in The Flash and feels like a plot advancement for the character’s storyline.

Is Flash 2023 a Sequel to Justice League?

This movie, a direct sequel to Justice League (2017), mainly tells the coming-of-age story of our hero, who has the ability to move at lightning-quick speeds. We get a new perspective on a superhero origin narrative as the universe begins by transporting the main character to some unusual locations, both literally and figuratively, and exposing him to some difficult questions and dilemmas. In an early scene, Affleck’s Wayne tells Allen, “It’s the scars that we have that make us who we are,” and this statement wonderfully encapsulates the film’s emotional impact.

Is the tone of the movie The Flash fun or serious?

As a filmmaker of horror films overseeing DC superhero pictures, Andy Muschietti of It fame joins the league of James Wan (Aquaman) and David F Sandberg (Shazam!) Andy Muschietti expertly blends action and emotions. He injects some lighthearted humor and audience-pleasing scenes into this dreary environment while never downplaying the emotional elements of the movie. After a rocky trip with the DCEU, we finally have a superhero extravaganza that makes us laugh and, occasionally, cry.

The Flash has several drawbacks, though, and they significantly slow down the movie’s final act. The conclusion is significantly less thrilling than planned due to the characters’ overlap, the glaringly visible green-screen effects, and the clichéd good men must save the World plot. Iris West, played by Kiersey Clemons, is the subject of another subplot that the movie briefly returns to before dying out.

What about Michael Keaton in The Flash?

In his return to the beloved classic form of the character, Michael Keaton dons the bat suit, and he leaves an unforgettable impression as an aged Batman. The emotional core of this movie is formed by the friendship between these characters. There are a lot of pleasant surprises like that, including other DC characters making amusing appearances. The Flash is undoubtedly a good move in the path of revitalizing DC’s superhero universe, as is evident by the efforts made here. We all hope they keep up the pace.
